About Chick-fil-A
Chick-fil-A is privately held and owned by the Cathy family. Andrew Cathy has served as chief executive since 2021, and Dan Cathy serves as chairman. Chick-fil-A builds and owns each building and selects an Owner-Operator to run it, and most Owner-Operators run a single store on site.
Drive-throughs generate up to 60% of sales, according to a 2025 report, and systemwide sales reached about $22 billion in 2024. Under its Shared Table program, surplus food goes to local hunger relief, and every new opening funds a $25,000 donation to Feeding America or Second Harvest.
History of Chick-fil-A
S. Truett Cathy and his brother Ben opened the Dwarf Grill, later renamed the Dwarf House, in Hapeville, Georgia, in 1946. The diner stood near the Ford assembly plant. In 1961, Cathy found a pressure fryer that cooked a chicken breast in about the time a hamburger takes, which made a fast chicken sandwich possible. The first Chick-fil-A opened in the food court of Greenbriar Mall in Atlanta in 1967.
Freestanding buildings arrived in 1986, and the Holstein cows behind the “Eat Mor Chikin” slogan debuted in 1995. Chick-fil-A became free of trans fats in 2008. In 2017, stores opened on a Sunday for the first time to feed travelers stranded by a power outage at the Atlanta airport. A breaded cauliflower sandwich, the first without meat, joined the lineup in 2023, and Frosted Sodas and Floats launched in January 2026 for the 80th anniversary.

- Los Angeles (the original stand), 2575 West Beverly Blvd
- North Hills, 15745 Roscoe Blvd
